India: Nation’s First Lunar Probe Lands

The first lunar probe from India landed on the moon Friday and has been transmitting images back to Indian space control, the Indian Space Research Organization said. The mission’s chief goal is mapping the surface of the moon, as well as what lies beneath. India will join what is shaping up to be a 21st century space race, as Chinese and Japanese spacecraft already orbit the moon.
