Britain: Burglar Sends an Apology
A repentant burglar sent his elderly victim a bouquet of flowers to apologize for frightening her, the police said on Friday. The victim, a 91-year-old woman, received the flowers and a note of apology after confronting the burglar in her house around 4 a.m. on Oct. 9, said the police in Halifax, which is about 200 miles northwest of London. In his note the burglar said he had thought the house was empty, and he apologized for breaking in. “Whoever did this has a conscience and feels guilty for what he has done,” said Tony Nicholson, a West Yorkshire police detective inspector. The burglar fled from the house empty-handed, the police said, and they appealed to the man to come forward.
